First day Madulain – Es-cha |
| From the train station of this Upper Engadine village a path leads uphill to the northeast. The path is well marked and leads to the Chamanna d'Es-cha. |
Second day Es-cha – Jenatsch |
| The path goes almost horizontally to the Fuorcla Gualdauna, a pass. Then follows the descent through sunny southern slopes to the road, which leads to the Albula pass. We walk along the road and pass-by the restaurant Hospiz. After about 2 km we reach a path. We ascend to the Fuorcla Crap Alv, followed by a steep descent into the quiet Val Bever (valley). Along the road we ascend to the Alp Tegia d'Val and go further to the recently refurbished Chamanna Jenatsch. |
Third day Jenatsch – Coaz |
| Take the new path to Fuorcla Suvretta and descend to Lej Suvretta. Down the valley to Alp and on to Silvaplana. On the other side of the valley, the Corvatsch-cable car takes you to middle station Murtèl. The hike continues over the Fuorcla Surlej pass on the impressive "panorama path" to the Chamanna Coaz. |
Fourth day Coaz – Tschierva |
Descent to the glacial lake, on which drifting ice-floes can be seen in early summer. Across a unique landscape which only a century ago was covered by the glacier. The trail passes along a milky glacial lake and across a curious moraine landscape. Ascent to Chamanna Tschierva with views of the icy peaks of Roseg, Scerscen and Bernina. The Tschierva hut is base camp for alpine ascents of Piz Bernina via the Biancograt. |
Fifth day Tschierva – Boval |
| Descent through the famous hiking paradise of the Val Roseg to Pontresina. Then beside the railway line or, alternatively, by train to Morteratsch. The trail along the side moraine of the famous Morteratsch glacier leads first through woods of Arolla pines and then to Chamanna Boval along a slope that gives magnificent views out over the glacier. |
Sixth day Boval – Saoseo |
| Descend to Morteratsch station and take the train (or walk) to Lagalb. Hike through the Val Minor to its eponymous lake, then over a col. Then descend, for a short distance over trackless terrani, to the road leading to Livigno. From La Rösa via Salva to Lungacqua and the Rifugio Saoseo near the eponymous lake. The short additional climb up to the idyllically sited lake is highly recommended. |
Seventh day Saoseo – Poschiavo |
| We hike along the southern side of the valley through woods and clearings down into Val Poschiavo. The path leads via Terzana and Suracqua to splendid look-off points and finally down to Poschiavo. After a delicious icecream in the piazza, we take the train back to our starting point. |
